Cologne
Is the largest economic metropolis on the Rhine with one million inhabitants and 20 million people in the catchment area. The main factor behind the successful development of the Cologne region was – and remains – its central and extremely convenient location in the middle of Europe. Cologne is at the heart of a centrally located region of the European Economic Community. With a population of 105 million within a radius of 600 km, this central region includes the cities of Paris, London, Hamburg, and Stuttgart. This region accounts for more than 40% of the EC's gross national product.

Bonn
So there’s the old Parliament House, Tall Eugen, and the government district - and that’s all, right? Wrong. There’s more to Bonn: The Romans built a legion camp here more than 2,000 years ago, and the electors of Cologne once resided here in Baroque splendor – but it’s also from here that the German Agency for Space Affairs is running the D-2 mission into space and Deutsche Telekom is making connections around the world. Here it is that mathematicians from Bonn University are developing the megachip of the future and a museum mile with world-class houses has been created in recent years.

Cloth factory at the Rheinisches Industriemuseum
The Müller cloth factory had to cease operations in 1961 due to a lack of orders. But the owner Kurt Müller hoped to be able to resume production. Which was why he kept everything in his company exactly as it had been when the workers left on the last day. The doors were barred to machine or scrap dealers and new tenants alike! Kurt Müller's obstinacy was a stroke of luck for the Rheinisches Industriemuseum. It was able to take over a factory that had been transported wholesale from the past and turn it into a museum that was one of a kind.

Kommern Open-Air Museum
The four regions of the Rhineland, the Eifel, the Westerwald, the Lower Rhine, and Bergisches Land, are each represented by a different group of buildings. The building clusters, embedded in a museum landscape with fields, farm gardens and orchards, reflect the way settlements used to look in their respective regions of origin. On a walk through the beautiful museum landscape, you will encounter the historic crops and animals that once shaped the image of the villages. Some of the farm animal breeds bred here are hardly to be found in any zoo.
